Tuesday, August 12, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM (ET)

Hybrid (In-person at JFT Event Hall with Livestreaming on YouTube) | Admission Free | Registration Required

Join this hybrid style lecture to gain a unique insight into the lives of female Buddhist priests in Japan today. What do their lives tell us about contemporary Japanese Buddhism? How do the experiences of female priests differ from those of male priests? Using interviews from dozens of priests across Japan, this talk will outline the upbringing, training, and daily lives of female monastics.

The speaker, Dr. Mark Rowe, is an Associate Professor of Japanese Religions at McMaster University and a recent Japanese Studies Fellow with the Japan Foundation.
