Photographic Images and Matter: Japanese Prints of the 1970s
In-person Exhibition at JFT Gallery | Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays | Admission Free | Registration Required
This exhibition of contemporary prints showcases important trends in prints during the 1970s, and also focuses on print-inspired trends in contemporary art of the same period.
Japanese prints of the 1970s are unique in their character of mixing two contrasting factors: The technical innovation of bringing photographic images into printmaking such as silkscreen or etching; and the spiritual influence of the Mono-ha art movement, in which the artists pursue a sense of the physical existence of materials in their rough, primitive texture or form, seeing through to the spiritual energy under the surface.
Visit the JFT gallery to view the exhibition and its two distinct sections: "The Age of Photographic Images" and "Images of Autonomous Matter."
