Compassion in Exile - Quiet Time: Mindfulness at the Movies
To celebrate the birthday of His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, who turns 88 this July, our series on mindfulness at the movies returns with this landmark portrait of the great spiritual leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
Filmed with unprecedented access by director Mickey Lemle, His Holiness describes the upbringing and key moments in the Dalai Lama’s life with humour and candor. Discover the stories behind historic events including his becoming Tibet's head of state at the age of 16, journeying to Beijing at 19 to confront Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai, and fleeing to India at 20.
Using historic and some never-before-seen footage, and with an entrancing score by Philip Glass, the film is a moving chronicle of the Dalai Lama's non-violent struggle to bring attention to the plight of his people. Join us for a vivid portrait a life that is an inspiring lesson in compassion, humour and peace.
