We all know that every great shark hunt movie needs an equally epic soundtrack. It makes sense, then, that Wes Anderson enlisted Brazilian musician Seu Jorge to cover some of David Bowie’s greatest hits, like “Changes,” “Rebel Rebel,” and “Life on Mars?” for his 2004 cult-favourite, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. The kooky ‘70s tunes add just the right amount of whimsy to this adventure-comedy, featuring many of Anderson’s usual suspects—Bill Murray stars as a renowned oceanographer seeking revenge, while Owen Wilson plays his partner at sea/potential long lost son. Anderson’s signature symmetrical shots and meticulously detailed design pair perfectly with Bowie’s grandest, greatest, emotionally-charged songs. Oh! You Pretty Things, indeed.
