Howard Shore: A Conversation with Don McLean Louis Applebaum Distinguished Visitor in Film Composition

Biography: As one of today’s premier composers, Howard Shore’s music is being performed by the most prestigious orchestras in concert halls and theatres around the world. The music Shore created for J.R.R. Tolkien’s imaginative world of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films have enthralled people of all generations. This work stands as one of his most acclaimed compositions to date and was honoured with three Academy Awards, four Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes as well as numerous critic and festival awards. More recently Shore wrote the scores for Denial and the Best Picture Oscar winner Spotlight. He has scored 15 films for David Cronenberg, six for Martin Scorsese, and provided music for many esteemed directors over the past 40 years. Shore is an officer of the Order of Canada, an Officier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la France, and the recipient of Canada’s Governor General’s Performing Arts Award.
