With this film, we experience the reality of the war between the French and British empires in North America starting in 1755. Aboriginals played an important role in this conflict and the conquest of New France had significant consequences for both the Europeans and the Aboriginal peoples.  Marcel Martel is a professor of Canadian history at york University. his research deals with identities, nation-building and the French presence on the North American continent. Following the lecture, Michael Mann’s film The Last of the Mohicans will be shown at 7:30 p.m.
