Peter Sramek, Piercing Time: Paris after Marville and Atget - 1865 - 2012

Chair of photography at OCAD University (Ontario College of Art and Design) and a specialist of the representation of historical cultural spaces and more particularly urban environments, Peter Sramek emphasizes the cultural wealth and history of Parisian urban spaces.

By juxtaposing Peter Sramek’s contemporary photographs to those made by Charles Marville or Eugène Atget, this exhibition tells Paris’ urban change from the 19th century to nowadays. Piercing Time presents a rephotographic project which has examined the archive of topographic photographs of Paris made by Charles Marville between 1865 and 1877, first under Georges Haussmann and then under the Third Republic.

Peter Sramek published online four amazing videos explaining the project (click here to see videos).
