International Holocaust Remembrance Day - Film Screening

PRESENTED BY: Istituto Italiano di Cultura | Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) | Toronto Jewish Film Foundation (TJFF) | Villa Charities

On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Foreign Ministry renews its staunch commitment to preserve the memory of the Shoah, also abroad, through the numerous events and initiatives organised by our diplomatic network around the world, including the Italian Cultural Institutes.

In 2020, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Toronto commemorates this tragic event with the North American premiere of the film "Figli del destino" / Sons of Destiny (2019), directed by Francesco Miccichè and Marco Spagnoli.

"Figli del destino", tells the story of four Italian children, from the South to the North of Italy, facing the shame of racial laws and the wave of hate generated by Mussolini and Fascism against the Jews. This docu-drama is interspersed with interviews that document witness accounts of the hardships faced by the survivors who bravely tell their stories, coupled with re-enactments that bring to life their experiences.

ITALIAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES

In January 2019, Italian national broadcaster, Raiuno, presented "Children of Destiny" with a viewership of 2.969.000. reaching a 12.4 audience share.
