The Saariaho thread continues as Canadian soprano Carla Huhtanen and Kwagiulth and Stó:lo First Nations mezzo-soprano Marin Newman collaborate in a performance of Saariaho’s Grammaire des rêves (From the Grammar of Dreams [1988]). Cellist, composer, and Glenn Gould School student Raphael Weinroth-Browne gives us a work for solo cello and collaborates with Heather Sita Black in their duo, The Visit. The Conservatory has commissioned a new work from Vancouver composer Jordan Nobles. Known for creating music filled with an “unearthly beauty” (Mondomagazine) that makes listeners want to “close (their) eyes and transcend into a cloud of music” (Discorder Magazine), Nobles has emerged as one of Canada’s finest composers.
