The Bicycle Opera Project presents new Canadian operatic repertoire that delves into contemporary issues. The Blind Woman is about a blind dancer and the shadow of her sight. The Yellow Wallpaper tells of Emily, who becomes convinced that the ghostly figure of a woman is trapped behind the wallpaper of her bedroom. (What rhymes with) Azimuth? is set in the Distillery District, where two strangers find a common point of interest through their observations of the universe. Bianchi: A five-minute bicycle opera is an original miniature opera almost entirely in bike puns, as a tenor and a baritone race after a soprano, gearing up to pedal their way into her heart. “Dreaming Duet” is a sneak peek at a brand new opera called the The Bells of Baddeck, the story of the great inventor Alexander Graham Bell and his wife Mabel, which will receive its world premiere this summer in Cape Breton. Ride of the Bicycle Bells marks the Bicycle Opera Project’s first commissioned work: a score for 11 bicycle bells and one bike horn! A cash bar will serve beverages in the lobby.
