History: witnesses and gray areas

Éric Jennings, history teacher at the University of Toronto, will welcome the Famous French historian Annette Wieviorka for a unique conference.

Two themes will be discussed during this round-table: first, the unfamiliar aspect of history that was the Jewish emigration to Madagascar; then Annette Wieviorka will explain the role of witnesses in the writing of history.

Annette Wieviorka is a French historian, specialised in Shoah and Jewish history in the twentieth century. Research director rat the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), she was a member on the mission Mattéoli, the Study Group on the Spoliation of Jewish Property in France. She is now a member of the support committee from the Primo Levi Assocation –which provides medical and psychological care to men, women and children who are victims of torture and refugees in France.
