Merry Christmakah! From “White Christmas” to “Silver Bells”, Jewish composers have penned the soundtrack to the season and in doing so have helped transform a Christian holy day into a secular celebration. Join us for a head start on the holidays with the Toronto premiere of Dreaming of a Jewish Christmas, Larry Weinstein’s fun and irreverent look at musical geniuses such as Irving Berlin, Mel Tormé, Jay Livingston and others, and how they’ve shaped Christmas celebrations through song. Rare archival footage, musical performances and illuminating interviews with writers, performers and popular music connoisseurs come together against the backdrop of Toronto’s own Sea Hi Famous Chinese Restaurant to tell this offbeat holiday tale.

Director Larry Weinstein, producer Liam Romalis, writer/producer Jason Charters, performer David Wall, performer Dione Taylor, performer Aviva Chernick, and interviewee/expert Robert Harris will be in attendance for a post-screening discussion.

Presented by Toronto Jewish Film Foundation.
