Anote's Ark

The Pacific Island nation of Kiribati is one of the most remote places on the planet, seemingly far-removed from the pressures of modern life. Yet it is one of the first countries that must confront the pressing dangers of rising sea levels. Against a backdrop of international climate and human rights negotiations, Kiribati’s President Anote Tong races to find a way to protect his nation from imminent disappearance- while on ground level, a young mother of six seeks to migrate her family to New Zealand. Intimately balancing the personal and the political, Anote’s Ark is a sweeping cautionary tale about the undeniable forces of climate change, and a poignant portrait of a people’s fight for survival.

Director Matthieu Rytz will join us for a Skype Q&A following the screening.
