Glass Slippers, Winged Sandals and Red-hot Shoes of Torment: Shoes in Early Children’s Stories

Bata Shoe Museum

Illustrated talk by Leslie McGrath, Senior Department Head, Toronto Public Library’s Osborne Collection of Early Children’s Books

In many children’s stories glass slippers and winged sandals tell only half the tale. In fact, in many of these examples, the wearer actually becomes the victim of the shoe! Join us as Leslie McGrath explores this thought-provoking and fascinating subject using illustrations from the Osborne Collection of Early Children’s Books. Following the talk, guests will have the opportunity to tour the exhibition Fashion Victims: The Pleasures and Perils of Dress in the 19th Century.

Sponsored by Toronto Public Library. | 1 – 3 pm | Limited space | To reserve your spot, please email rsvp@batashoemuseum.ca or call 416.979.7799 x228.
