Election 2016: POLITICAL ADVERTISEMENT IX 1952–2016

Election 2016: A three-part doc series on what's at stake and who's at play this November.

This fascinating anthology of American campaign ads documents the selling of the American presidency since the 1950s. A social and media history emerges as media artists Antoni Muntadas and Marshall Reese trace the development of the TV spot as political strategy and manipulative marketing technique from Eisenhower in 1956 through Clinton, Bush, Obama and up to this very year. This revealing stream of political advertisements, presented without commentary, includes many rare and never-before-seen spots. Watch as whistle-stop tours and convention fights give way to instant polls and attack ads.

Includes a post-screening Q&A with directors Antoni Muntadas and Marshall Reese, moderated by University of Toronto journalism professor Jeffrey Dworkin.
