Concert "I Like the Land" by Marko Matvere and Peep Raun

On Tuesday, April 26th at 7:30 pm at Tartu College, Marko Matvere and Peep Raun will be performing their concert I Like the Land (Mulle meeldib maa!).

I Like the Land!

A concert featuring old seafaring tunes and ballads, along with stories about the golden age of sailing. This golden age is considered the time between the 16th and 20th centuries. During this time ships with large sails transported travelors and goods all around the world.

This period marks the beginning of the seafaring tune tradition called shanty, which has further developed into the sea tunes of today. The golden age ended with the completion of the steam engine and the development of the internal combustion engine. The most beautiful, romantic and fun songs have continued to exist from the 19th century to today. The most beloved sea romantics and song writers base their works on these historic tunes. The golden age had ships made of wood and men made of iron.
