AADFF: Finn with an Oyster

The almost forgotten history and epic controversy surrounding the planning and building of Toronto’s New City Hall in the early 1960s is examined in this award-winning film. Michael Kainer’s nostalgic documentary examines the daring international architectural competition - won by Finnish architect Viljo Revell - that brought significant acclaim and attention to Toronto. New City Hall remains a much-loved iconic building that still delights to this day. Four former Toronto Mayors, prominent architects, and Revell family members are featured - as are the dramatic changes in our city’s population, demographics and big-shouldered skyline in the fifty years since the buildings commission.

Director Michael Kainer, former Toronto mayor John Sewell and Dr. Peter Harris, former Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science of the University of Toronto, will participate in a post-screening Q&A.
