Catwalk: Tales from the Catshow Circuit

Calling all cat people, especially those with a competitive streak! Two fancy felines face off in Catwalk, a funny and moving portrayal of the passionate sub-culture of cat showing. “Cat Fanciers” Shirley and her prize-winning Persian, “Ohh-la-la” (or “La” for short”) takes on Kim’s Turkish Angora, “Bobby”. La is going for one more award on the shelf while Kim is pouring money into ensuring her companion goes home number one. Best in Show meets the Hot Docs favourite Kedi in this cross-country tour of Canada's most charming kitties and the colourful characters who pamper them.

Free Screening: STEP

Going to school and accessing a quality education isn't easy or isn't even an option for some students. Step documents the senior year of a girl's high-school step dance team against the background of inner-city Baltimore. As each one tries to become the first in their families to attend college, the girls strive to make their dancing a success amidst social unrest in their troubled city.

A post-screening discussion and a live pitch by Toronto teachers to support their classroom projects will follow.

In Conversation: Rose McGowan

Join writer, director, music artist, former actress, entrepreneur, founder of #ROSEARMY, and proud feminist Rose McGowan as she discusses her poignant memoir/manifesto BRAVE.

BRAVE is a pull-no punches account of the rise of a millenial icon who is determined to expose the truth about the entertainment industry. Explore Rose McGowan's efforts to dismantle the concept of fame, shine a light on a multibillion-dollar business built on systemic misogyny, and empower people everywhere to wake up and be BRAVE.
